The behavior of metal ions’ leaching and precipitated mineral phases of metal-rich fly ash (FA) was examined in order to evaluate microbial impacts on carbon sequestration and metal immobilization. The leaching solutions consisted of aerobic deionized water (DW) and artificial eutrophic water (AEW) that was anaerobic, organic- and mineral-rich, and higher salinity as is typical of bottom water in eutrophic algae ponds.

A 1,460-m-long profile of a Late Glacial subglacial, glacio-fluvial, glacio-limnic and glacio-deltaic sequence exposed at a cliff section on Usedom Island (SW Baltic Sea coast) is described. The sequence is up to 31 m thick and shows sedimentary structures typical of a glacial setting. Soft-sediment deformation is encountered and is associated with changes in lithology.

Study on an Intelligent Inference Engine in Early-Warning System of Dam Health

With systems engineering and artificial intelligent methods, an earlywarning system of dam health (EWSDH) is developed. This system consists of integration control module, intelligent inference engine (IIE), support base cluster, information management and input/output modules. As a central processing unit of EWSDH, IIE is a decision support system for monitoring the operation characteristics and diagnosing unexpected behaviour of dam health.
