Suppression of NH3 and N2O Emissions by Massive Urea Intercalation in Montmorillonite

- Date Added:

A large amount of nitrogen (N) fertilizers has been broadcasted over soil surface for reliable crop production. Unfortunately, the broadcasted N vulnerable to volatilization and leaching can lead to serious environmental problems. As a new approach to mitigate N loss of broadcasted fertilizers, massive intercalation of urea into montmorillonite (MMT) was recently proposed to innovatively enhance the urea use efficiency. This study focuses on demonstrating the behaviors of the urea intercalated into MMT in soils.

Displaying foreign antigens on the surface of attenuated or avirulent bacteria is an important strategy to develop live multivalent vector vaccines. In our previous work, several efficient surface display systems have been established based on outer membrane anchoring elements, which could successfully display heterologous proteins in attenuated Vibrio anguillarum.

Towards Sustainable Water Quality: Management of Rainwater Harvesting Cisterns in Southern Palestine

- Date Added:
- 11/15/2011
- Hits:
- 11
Environmental management of rainwater harvesting in southern Palestine is required to reduce the continuously increasing demand for fresh water from limited water aquifers and to reduce the adverse health impact on the people drinking harvested rainwater. This continuously increasing demand for fresh water requires the enhancement of environmental conditions surrounding the cistern owners’ awareness to tackle the mismanagement that contributed to rainwater contamination. In this study, 100 cisterns were sampled and tested for physiochemical and microbiological parameters.

Tradable White Certificates: Experiences and Perspectives

- Date Added:
- 11/15/2011
- Hits:

The term white certificates refers to policy schemes that combine an end-use energy efficiency obligation on energy companies with a trading option. After summarizing its rationale, the paper focuses on the major issues and challenges in designing and administering a white certificates mechanism based on the comparison of the major active national schemes that emerged from the dedicated 2010 IEPEC panel session.

Winter ENSO Teleconnections in a Warmer Climate

Changes in the winter atmospheric response to sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies associated with the El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) in a warmer climate conditions are estimated from the two 20-member ensembles made by an atmospheric general circulation model of intermediate complexity.
