Functions and Tasks

The University Library is responsible for supporting USU’s Tridharma: education and teaching, research, and community service.

The library functions to:

  1. Supporting education, research, and community service at USU by identifying, selecting, acquiring, cataloguing, processing, and making library materials available, with attention to relevance, currency, balance, and preservation.
  2. Ensuring that library services are provided effectively and efficiently by utilizing advances in information and communication technology.

  3. Providing facilities to support acquisition, processing, catalog searching, and library services through an automated system with integrated software.
  4. Planning, promoting, implementing, and evaluating library activities within the framework of education and teaching, research, and community service at Universitas Sumatera Utara.
  5. Establishing effective management and organizational structures to achieve the library’s goals and objectives.
  6. Creating an environment and opportunities that enable library staff to achieve and maintain high performance according to established quality standards.
  7. Providing adequate physical facilities to meet the needs of collections, users, and staff.
  8. Maintaining effective two-way communication both internally and externally.
  9. Optimizing resource sharing and networking at the local, regional, national, and international levels.
  10. Evaluating the implementation and progress of the library’s strategic plan
