Head of the National Library Inaugurates PP-IPI for the 2018–2021 Period

Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta–Head of the National Library of Indonesia Muhammad Syarif Bando officially inaugurated the Central Management of the Indonesian Librarians Association for the 2018-2021 period at the National Library Auditorium, Monday, (14/01). On this occasion, a scientific seminar on librarianship was also held, and the Director of Higher Education, Science and Technology, and Culture of the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas Amich Alhumami was presented as a resource person.

In his direction, the Head of the National Library asked librarians to dare to go directly to the regions. No longer struggling with work such as cataloging. The national library has collaborated with the Ministry of Development of Disadvantaged Regions to create new library corners in each village using village funds. This means that librarians are ready to be spread out. Sharing their knowledge, and helping solve community problems. “Librarians must dare to appear and work hard in serving the community,” he added. Specifically, the Head of the National Library also asked for the courage of the IPI management to attract one million people to become members of IPI.

In line with the Head of the National Library, the General Chairperson of PP-IPI T. Syamsul Bahri also said that librarians who are members of the IPI must work hard and produce great works for the world of Indonesian librarianship. In this millennial era, all ranks of IPI, both at the center and in the regions, must work together to raise the dignity of the librarian profession in the arena of future development. “Working and creating is a choice to raise the existence of Indonesian librarianship”.

Meanwhile, the Director of Higher Education, Science and Technology and Culture of the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas Amich Alhumami hopes that librarians do not limit their knowledge to just one discipline. Librarians are the engines of library development, librarianship and literacy drivers. And libraries are one of the most important elements for community development. Libraries since the past have been icons of an import from time to time. Building a competitive society must start with quality education.

“The literacy movement has transformed. Society is not only proficient in reading but must also master science and technology accompanied by innovations,” explained Amich.
