A New Leadership Chapter: USU Rector Appoints Prof. Syahril Efendi and Sundari to Lead the Library for 2026–2031

 

MEDAN, March 12, 2026 — Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) officially inaugurated its new leadership team for the USU Library. The solemn inauguration ceremony was held at the USU Student Center on Thursday morning, marking the beginning of the 2026–2031 leadership term.

 

The new library leaders were directly appointed by the Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si. The appointed officials are Prof. Dr. Syahril Efendi, S.Si., M.I.T. as Head of the USU Library and Sundari, S.Sos., M.Si. as Secretary of the USU Library.

 

The Rector personally led the oath-taking ceremony in the presence of invited guests. This appointment represents a strategic step by the university to strengthen institutional governance, particularly in the areas of literacy services and information resource management.

As the new leadership team, Prof. Syahril Efendi and Sundari are expected to bring an innovative spirit to accelerate USU’s vision of becoming a World Class University through digital transformation and the advancement of literacy toward a Smart Academic Library. Their agenda will focus on three main pillars:

 

  • Strengthening Digital Repositories: Enhancing online and integrated access to academic works for the entire academic community.
  • Improving Service Quality: Transforming the library into an inclusive, modern, and comfortable “third place” for student collaboration.
  • Alignment with National Higher Education Policies: Ensuring library programs support broader educational strategies that create societal impact.

The entire USU Library community extends their congratulations:

“Congratulations on the inauguration of Prof. Dr. Syahril Efendi, S.Si., M.I.T. as Head of the USU Library and Sundari, S.Sos., M.Si. as Secretary of the USU Library for the 2026–2031 term. May you carry out this mandate with integrity, inspire progress, and bring positive transformation to literacy development within Universitas Sumatera Utara.”

 

With this new leadership, the USU Library is poised to transform into a leading information hub that is adaptive to evolving academic needs and global developments.
