The definition of literacy itself is a person’s ability to process and understand information when reading and writing. In its development, the definition of literacy has always evolved according to the challenges of the times. If in the past the definition of literacy was the ability to read and write, now the term Literacy has begun to be used in a broader sense. It has even penetrated cultural practices related to social and political issues.
One of the activities that filled the Literacy Festival was the Literacy Festival Workshop entitled “Literature Search and Plagiarism”, with speakers from the USU Library Librarians, namely, Evi Yulfimar, S.Sos., and Juli Handayani, S.Sos. The workshop held on the first day of the Festival took place on the first floor of the USU Library Reference Room at 10:00 WIB.
The workshop was opened by the Dean of the USU Faculty of Cultural Sciences Dr. Budi Agustono, M.S. who was accompanied by the Head of the Library Science Undergraduate Study Program Ishak, S.S., M.Hum., and the Chair of the Literacy Festival Committee Nurul Askwana.
In his remarks, Budi Agustono hoped that through this workshop, participants of approximately one hundred people could understand the true definition of literacy and could utilize the plagiarism application owned by USU in producing quality scientific work.
The event lasted for two hours and was quite interesting. The participants were quite enthusiastic about participating in the activity. This can be seen from the question and answer session with a fairly large number of questioners.
