USU Holds the 74th Indonesian Independence Day Festival

MEDAN – The University of Sumatra Utara held the 74th Indonesian Independence Day Festival, which took place from 5-16 August 2019. This festival was filled with several activities in the form of sports tournaments including Volleyball, Trup Gembira, Chess, Terompah Panjang, Tug of War, Gymnastics Gembira, Best Archive Processing, and Green Campus.

The 74th Indonesian Independence Day Festival was officially opened by the Secretary of the University Dr. dr. Farhat, M.Ked (ORL-HNS), Sp. THT KL (K)., in his speech stated that the purpose of this Festival was to strengthen the relationship between work units (Satker) in the USU environment, as a form of gratitude for Indonesia’s independence.

The opening of the Festival took place at the USU Volleyball field located on Jl. T. M. Hanafiah (5/8) and was attended by the Chairperson of the Committee Dr. Ridwan Siregar, SH., M.Lib., Deputy Chairperson of the Committee Suharti, SH., Dean of FMIPA Kerista Sebayang, MS., and Head of USU Public Relations Office Elvi Sumanti, ST., M.Hum., as well as all participants from the Work Units within the University of North Sumatra.

The event which took place at around 15.00 WIB was then symbolically opened by the University Secretary which was marked by the first ball being hit (serve) into the volleyball court. Then continued with the first match in the women’s volleyball team tournament which brought together the Library Women’s Volleyball Team and the Faculty of Law Women’s Volleyball Team.

This first match was won by the Library Women’s Team in two straight sets with a score of 25-22, 25-17. Then continued with the match between the FMIPA Women’s Team against the FKG Women’s Team which was won by the FKG Team with a score of 25-12, 25-22.
