Medan, September 23, 2026 — The Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Library continues to strengthen its commitment to improving the quality of library services and governance through the USU Library Reaccreditation Assessment, held on Wednesday (September 23, 2026), at the Conference Room, 1st Floor of the USU Library.
The assessment was part of the evaluation process of library management and services, as well as an important opportunity for the USU Library to demonstrate its achievements, innovations, and service development in supporting the academic needs of the USU academic community.
The reaccreditation assessment was attended by USU Rector Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si.; Vice Rector II for Human Resources, Finance, and Information Systems Dr. Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., M.SP.; Head of the USU Library Prof. Dr. Syahril Efendi, S.Si., M.I.T., along with the library management team; the Library Accreditation Assessment Team; the Library Accreditation Quality Assurance Team; as well as coordinators and staff involved in the assessment process. Meanwhile, Deputy for Library Resource Development of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpusnas RI), Dr. Adin Bondar, S.Sos., M.Si., attended the event virtually.
The event began with the welcoming of the Assessment Team and university leaders, the singing of the Indonesian national anthem Indonesia Raya, the opening session, a prayer, the screening of the USU Library profile video, and a presentation by the Head of the USU Library. The program continued with remarks from representatives of the Assessment Team, the Deputy for Library Resource Development of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia, and the USU Rector.
In his remarks, Dr. Adin Bondar, S.Sos., M.Si., expressed his appreciation for the commitment demonstrated by the University of Sumatera Utara in strengthening a culture of literacy through library development. The participation of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia in the assessment process also highlighted the important role of academic libraries in supporting literacy, learning, and access to quality information resources.
Meanwhile, USU Rector Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., emphasized the importance of developing a Smart Digital Library as part of efforts to address the challenges of literacy and technological advancement. According to him, library transformation needs to be carried out continuously by utilizing digital technology to expand and improve the quality of services for the academic community.
This direction of transformation is in line with the presentation delivered by the Head of the USU Library, Prof. Dr. Syahril Efendi, S.Si., M.I.T., who outlined the development of the library toward an AI-Driven Academic Knowledge Ecosystem. During the presentation, several innovations were introduced, including Digital Shelf Packaging (Kemasan Rak Digital/KRD) and an updated catalog system, as part of the development of services that are adaptive to technological advancements and user needs.
As part of the welcoming program for the Assessment Team, the USU Library also conducted an ulos presentation ceremony as a gesture of respect and an effort to introduce the cultural heritage of North Sumatra. The event continued with a group photo session before the Assessment Team and participants proceeded to their respective rooms to undertake the assessment stages.
During the core assessment stage, the process was conducted through a library tour, interviews based on the assessment components, and verification of forms, assessment instruments, and supporting physical evidence. Through these stages, the Assessment Team directly reviewed various aspects of library management and operations, including governance, services, human resources, facilities, and innovations developed by the USU Library.
The assessment process was not only part of fulfilling the reaccreditation requirements but also served as an opportunity for the USU Library to evaluate and strengthen various aspects of its services. The assessment results are expected to provide valuable input for the continuous development of the library, enabling it to respond more effectively to the information, learning, research, and technological needs of its users.
The series of activities concluded with an Assessment Team meeting, the presentation of a preliminary summary of the visit results, and the handover of the official visit assessment report.
Through this reaccreditation assessment, the USU Library reaffirms its commitment to continuously transforming itself into an adaptive, innovative, and technology-driven academic library. The transformation toward a Smart Digital Library based on a Digital Knowledge Ecosystem is aimed at strengthening the library's role as a center of knowledge and supporting the development of an increasingly integrated academic ecosystem.
