Medan, June 25, 2026 – The Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Library welcomed students from Deakin University, Australia, who are participating in the Indonesian Language Program for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) at Universitas Sumatera Utara. The visit was part of the Language Program, which aims to provide participants with Indonesian language learning experiences while introducing them to Indonesia's academic environment and culture.
The delegation was welcomed by Evie Yulfimar, S.Sos. and Frans Aditya Lesmana Ginting, S.Sos., staff members of the USU Library's Reference Services. During the visit, the participants were introduced to the Library's various services, facilities, and collections that support learning and research activities.
The program is the result of a collaboration between the Language Center of Universitas Sumatera Utara and International Internships. Having been conducted previously, the program continues as part of the two institutions' commitment to providing Australian students with opportunities to learn the Indonesian language through direct academic and cultural experiences in Indonesia.
During their visit to the USU Library, the students toured the library's facilities, including the reference services, reading rooms, print and digital collections, and various information services available to support them throughout their program at USU. The activities were conducted interactively through presentations, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions with the librarians.
The visit was intended to enrich the learning experience of the BIPA participants by introducing the role of the library as a center for information and learning in higher education. In addition, the activity is expected to strengthen academic ties and cultural exchange between Indonesia and Australia while supporting the internationalization efforts of Universitas Sumatera Utara.
