Medan – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Library once again held an Information Literacy Class for students of the Master’s Program in Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, USU, on Friday, September 4, 2026. The activity was part of the USU Library’s efforts to support students’ academic and research needs through the effective utilization of information resources available at the library.
The Information Literacy Class provided participants with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of various information resources, access to scholarly journals, and library services, particularly those that can support their academic and research activities. Through this activity, students were encouraged to make optimal use of credible information sources to support the development of high-quality academic work.
The activity began with welcoming remarks from Sundari, S.Sos., M.Si., Secretary of the USU Library. The event then continued with a learning session featuring Juli Handayani, S.Sos., and Muhammad Salim, S.Sos. as resource persons.
During the learning session, participants gained knowledge and insights into the use of various library resources and information services that can support their academic and research needs. Participants were also introduced to the library’s digital services for finding relevant and reliable scholarly information.
This activity represents one of the USU Library’s contributions to strengthening information literacy within the academic community, particularly among postgraduate students who have a strong need for scholarly references to support their learning and research activities.
Through the Information Literacy Class, the USU Library continues to encourage students not only to find information but also to select, evaluate, and utilize information accurately and responsibly. These skills are essential for producing high-quality academic work based on credible and reliable information sources.
