Medan, July 8, 2026 – The Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Library once again organized the Information Literacy Class as part of the USU Library Holiday Program 2026 by holding a Basic Mendeley Training on Wednesday, July 8, at the USU Library Conference Room. The training was attended by students from various faculties as part of the Library's efforts to enhance their skills in managing references and producing academic writing more effectively.
The event was officially opened by Sundari, S.Sos., M.Si., Secretary of the USU Library. In her opening remarks, she emphasized that proficiency in reference management applications is an essential skill for students in producing high-quality academic papers. Through this information literacy program, the USU Library remains committed to providing educational training that meets the evolving needs of the academic community in the digital era.
The training was delivered by Mas Irwan Syahputra, S.Sos. as the resource person, assisted by Beby Rizky, S.Sos. and Frans Aditya L. Ginting, S.Sos., M.Si. Throughout the session, participants received comprehensive instruction and engaged in hands-on practice using the Mendeley application.
The training covered Mendeley installation, account creation, reference management, document import, library organization, citation insertion, and the automatic generation of bibliographies in Microsoft Word. During the practical session, participants completed each step using their own laptops, while the facilitators provided technical assistance to those encountering difficulties.
The training was conducted in an interactive atmosphere. Participants actively raised questions regarding reference management from multiple sources, data synchronization, and the use of Mendeley in preparing undergraduate theses and other academic papers. Their enthusiasm reflected a strong interest in improving their reference management skills.
The training aimed to equip students with fundamental Mendeley skills, enabling them to prepare academic papers in a more systematic, efficient, and academically appropriate manner. The program also reflects the USU Library's commitment to strengthening information literacy and digital competencies among the university's academic community.
Through the USU Library Holiday Program 2026, the USU Library hopes that students will not only gain new knowledge but also apply the skills they have acquired in preparing final projects, conducting research, and producing scholarly publications.
