Medan, July 7, 2026 – The Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Library officially launched its 2026 USU Library Holiday Program with an Information Literacy Class themed "Literature Searching in E-Journal and E-Book Databases." Held on Tuesday (July 7) at the USU Library, the program brought together students from various faculties across Universitas Sumatera Utara who enthusiastically took advantage of their holiday break to strengthen their academic competencies.
The Information Literacy Class aims to equip students with the skills needed to search for, access, and effectively utilize scholarly resources available through the electronic databases subscribed to by the USU Library. These competencies are essential for supporting academic learning, completing final projects, and conducting high-quality research.
The training session was delivered by Lia Marisa Barus, S.I.Pust. as the instructor, assisted by Maisyaroh Harahap, S.Sos. and Yuli Handayani, S.Sos. During the session, participants were introduced to a variety of scientific literature searching strategies, including techniques for selecting effective keywords and utilizing advanced search features to locate relevant scholarly articles and e-books through the electronic databases accessible to the USU academic community.
In addition to the theoretical presentation, participants took part in a hands-on practice session using their own devices. They were guided through the process of searching for scholarly articles related to their research interests and encouraged to make full use of advanced search features to obtain more precise, accurate, and relevant results for their academic needs.
The training was conducted in an interactive and engaging atmosphere. Participants actively participated in discussions and question-and-answer sessions on literature searching techniques, database access, and the effective use of the USU Library's digital collections. The practical guidance provided throughout the session enabled participants to better understand how to independently maximize the use of scholarly information resources.
The 2026 USU Library Holiday Program reflects the USU Library's commitment to enhancing the quality of education by strengthening information literacy among the university's academic community. Through a series of Information Literacy Classes held during the holiday period, the USU Library hopes to empower students with the knowledge and skills to identify, evaluate, and effectively utilize scholarly information in a responsible manner, preparing them to meet the academic and research challenges of the digital era.
