Medan – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Library welcomed an educational visit from junior and senior high school students of Al-Azhar Asy-Syarif Islamic School Medan on Friday, September 4, 2026. The visit provided an opportunity for the students to gain a closer understanding of the university library environment while broadening their knowledge of literacy and information resources.
The educational visit allowed the students to explore various facilities, library services, and information resources available at the USU Library. Through this activity, the students gained firsthand experience in utilizing the library as a learning center, an information resource, and a space for literacy development.
The delegation of junior and senior high school students from Al-Azhar Asy-Syarif Islamic School Medan was welcomed by Sundari, S.Sos., M.Si., Secretary of the USU Library. The activity was then officially opened by Juli Handayani, S.Sos., who served as the Master of Ceremonies (MC).
The participants subsequently took part in a Library Tour guided by Frans Adytia Lesmana Ginting, S.Sos., M.Si., Muhammad Salim, S.Sos., and Evi Yulfimar, S.Sos. During the tour, the students were invited to explore the library and gain a closer understanding of the various facilities and services available at the USU Library.
During the Library Tour, the participants were introduced to the university library environment and its facilities, which can be utilized to support learning activities, information searching, and literacy development. The activity was conducted in an educational and interactive manner, allowing the students to gain firsthand experience of how a university library can serve as a space for learning and knowledge development.
The visit is expected to broaden the students’ understanding of the important role of libraries in supporting the learning process, while also fostering reading interest, strengthening their ability to find and utilize information, and developing a culture of learning from an early age.

Through visits such as this, the USU Library continues to contribute to strengthening information literacy and nurturing a young generation that enjoys reading, thinks critically, and is capable of utilizing information resources wisely.
