USU Rector Receives a Visit from Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives

MEDAN – HUMAS USU: USU Chancellor, Prof. Dr. H. Runtung Sitepu, SH, M. Hum., received a visit from members of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives in his office, on Wednesday (16/1) morning. The visit was carried out to gather input regarding the Draft Law (RUU) on Social Worker Practices, led by Deputy Chairperson of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, H. Marwan Dasopang.

Members of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives who attended included H. Iskan Qolba Lubis, MA, Dr. Ir. HD Sodik Mudjahid, M.Sc., Diah Pitaloka, S.Sos., M.Si., actress Hj. Desy Ratnasari, M.Si., M.Psi. Meanwhile, the Chancellor was accompanied by the Dean of the USU Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si.

In the meeting, USU Chancellor Prof. Dr. H. Runtung Sitepu, SH, M. Hum., briefly conveyed the performance achievements of the university he led throughout 2018. The Chancellor and the DPR RI Commission VIII entourage also discussed various matters related to the mutual needs between the world of work and universities. Especially in creating skilled, ready-to-use, and competent graduates.

The Chancellor added that he welcomed the offer to collaborate with certain institutions in issuing certification for university graduates, especially those from study programs with certain expertise that are in great demand. Furthermore, the Dean of FISIP USU, Dr. Muryanto Amin, S. Sos, M.Si, added that USU has also planned to open a professional study program. Graduates from the program are expected to be able to immediately fill job fields that have so far been suspected of still being in great need of experts but still have limited access to fulfilling these human resources.

The event was closed with a group photo session and continued with an activity visiting the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) USU, to meet not only academics but also elements of the local government and other elements of society. It is expected that all activities can further enrich and collect useful input for the Working Committee of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives.
