MEDAN – The University of Sumatra Utara Library as one of the supporting units for the success of the teaching and learning process is required to always improve the quality of its services continuously in the current era of globalization. For this reason, the USU Library is currently working to obtain the ISO 9001:2015 Certificate.

This was conveyed by the Deputy Head of the USU Library Drs. Syakirin Pangaribuan, SH., at the opening of the “ISO 9001:2015 Understanding and Documentation Training” in the USU Library Conference Room (Wednesday, 9/10/2019).

“The advantage of implementing ISO 9001:2015 is that an organization will have a risk-based mindset so that it can prevent and deal with the complexity of existing problems,” he said in his speech.

The International Organization for Standardization or commonly abbreviated as ISO is an international standard-setting body consisting of representatives of national standardization bodies in each country to measure the quality of an organization. There are several types of ISO standardization, including ISO 9001:2015, which is a risk-based management standard to produce quality output and provide the best service to customers.

Achmad Tirmizi Hutasuhut, who is a consultant and speaker at the training, said that the benefits of an organization implementing ISO standards are that it can increase the credibility of an organization and optimize the performance of its employees. He also added that the success of implementing this ISO standard requires commitment from Top Management so that the desired output can be achieved.

The training started at around 09.00 AM to 04.00 PM. It lasted for two days, namely October 9-10, 2019. Attended by the Head of the Administration Sub-Division, Mr. Rasiman, and his staff consisting of the Heads of Affairs covering the fields of Finance, Personnel & Archives, and Facilities and Infrastructure. The training was also attended by the Heads of Divisions and their respective Heads of Sub-Divisions, namely the Technical Support Division, User Service Division, and Information Technology Support Division.
